Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in a ship engine room at Sheerness Docks.
Ten fire engines, a height vehicle and the water safety unit attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used main jets to extinguish the flames.
KFRS' volunteer response team was also in attendance.
One person was airlifted to hospital. The cause is not yet known
