30+ Incident Tuesday 04 August 2020 11:44
Canterbury
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in woodland off of Radfall Road in Chestfield, near Canterbury. Two fire engines attended and crews discovered a deep seated undergrowth fire, believed to have been caused by a smouldering campfire which had not been fully extinguished. Crews used water from portable tanks, called flexi packs, to put the fire out which covered an area of approximately four square metres. There were no reported casualties. Following this, firefighters are urging people to make sure campfires and bonfires are set well away from any greenery, and to avoid lighting them in areas of woodland due to the potential for the fire to spread and get out of control if surrounded by trees and bushes. It’s also important never to leave controlled fires unattended and to make sure they are fully extinguished, and the area properly cooled, once finished.
