Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in a property on Five Oak Lane in Staplehurst. Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews arrived to smoke issuing from the basement of the building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet and covering jet to tackle the blaze, before clearing the property of smoke with a high pressure fan. No casualties were reported, and the fire is believed to have started accidentally after ash from a log burner was emptied into a cardboard box. Following the incident, crews are reminding the public to always ensure any hot ash has fully cooled before safe and appropriate disposal.
