Immediate Emergency Care
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is offering vital CPR and AED training sessions across many of its stations that could help save someone's life in an emergency.
CPR is a technique used when someone stops breathing and then goes into cardiac arrest. They then need chest compressions and rescue breaths, to maintain blood and oxygen circulation to their body. An AED is a machine that can detect an arrhythmia of the heart and deliver an electric shock if needed. CPR and the use of an AED are essential lifesaving interventions, until further medical treatment is available by the Ambulance Service.
Selected fire stations across Kent are delivering free CPR and defibrillator training session that will equip learners with the skills they need to respond to sudden cardiac arrest.
Attendees will be taught these lifesaving skills by one of KFRS’ Immediate Emergency Care Trainers. The sessions will give participants the skills they need to respond in an emergency.
'You never know when you might need these skills'

Kirsty Finch signed up to a KFRS’ CPR course at Sevenoaks fire station to refresh her first aid skills and four weeks later she used them to save her husband’s life when he went into sudden cardiac arrest. Equipped with knowledge gained during the session with KFRS’ trainer James Lang, she was able to provide the crucial CPR until paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service arrived and took over. Kirsty is now urging people to sign up to a class, saying: “you never know when you might need these skills, it could make all the difference for someone you love.”
James Lang, Immediate Emergency Care Trainer at KFRS, who hosts CPR training sessions across the county said: "It’s the most rewarding job in the world and as an instructor, I love people telling me they’ve benefited and saved somebody’s life after attending my classes. I urge people to attend one of our CPR and Defibrillator sessions to learn how to give someone a chance of survival.”
