Kent Fire and Rescue Service is issuing safety advice around accidental grass, crop and woodland fires after a bonfire spread to a nearby tree in Dartford. Two fire engines were sent to the incident near Grass Banks, and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish a blaze which had spread to one large tree and a pile of rubbish. No casualties were reported and the fire is believed to have started accidentally after embers spread from a nearby bonfire. It is now peak season for grass, woodland and crop fires, and so crews are reminding the public to take extra care with bonfires:- Build your bonfire well away from, and clear of, buildings, garden sheds, fences, hedges and overhanging branches- Keep it to a manageable size and evenly built- Never leave bonfires unattended- Avoid lighting bonfires in windy conditions
