Beacons
If you are lighting a celebratory beacon for an event:
- Make sure the structure and base of the beacon is sturdy
- Make sure it’s well away from any fences, trees, buildings, or other structures
- Avoid lighting a beacon in very high winds
- Keep buckets of water or a hosepipe nearby in case the flames begin to spread
- Always supervise the burning
- Make sure children and pets are supervised
- Do not burn plastics or metals or use flammable liquids, such as paraffin or petrol, to light the beacon
- Call 999 immediately in an emergency
