Final update:

Firefighting operations have now ended at the scene of a bungalow fire in Mayfield Road, Herne Bay. 

The cause is not yet known, and there are no reported injuries. 

Mayfield Road has been re-opened in both directions, and people are no longer advised to avoid the area.

Update 9.05am:

Kent Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of a fire in a bungalow on Mayfield Road, Herne Bay.

The number of fire engines has been reduced to four, and crews continue to make good progress.  

Initial update:

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is currently at the scene of a fire in a property on Mayfield Road, Herne Bay.

Six fire engines are in attendance and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, are using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.  

People are advised to avoid the area while the road is blocked by emergency service vehicles.
