Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Loose Road, in Maidstone, to reports of fence panels and a hedgerow alight. Two fire engines attended, and crews put the fire out using a hose reel jet. 

The fire started when lighter fluid was accidentally dropped while a barbecue was being lit.

Following this incident, crews are reminding people to take care when having barbecues and follow some simple safety tips:
-    Keep accelerants well away from the cooking area
-    Make sure barbecues are away from fences, greenery and property 
-    Supervise the cooking at all times
