Firefighting operations are complete at the scene of a large house fire off West Street in Hunton, Maidstone. 

Duty of care will be left with the homeowner, and an investigation into the cause is underway.

One fire engine remains at the scene of a large house fire off West Street in Hunton, Maidstone. 

Crews are making sure the scene is safe before leaving duty of care with the homeowner. 

Update at 9.30am on Sunday 10 March 2024: 

Attendance at this incident has been reduced to a single fire engine and height vehicle. Some hot spots were identified and tackled by firefighters using the height vehicle to access. The watching brief continues.

Update at 8pm on Saturday 9 March 2024: 

Firefighters have worked hard under difficult conditions for the entire day to bring the fire under control and prevent further damage to the property from reignition and collapse. Three fire engines remain at the scene carrying out a watching brief to further ensure public safety.

Update at 11.15am on Saturday 9 March 2024: 

Crews are still at the scene and likely to be there for several more hours. Firefighting operations are making good progress. Firefighters are working with partner agencies and the owners of the affected properties to make the scene safe.

Initial update: 

Sixteen fire engines and a height vehicle are tackling a fire on the first floor and in the roof space of a three-storey property off West Street, Hunton, near Maidstone.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continue to fight the fire using main jets, and have worked hard in difficult conditions to salvage belongings from the property. The technical rescue team is in attendance due to partial collapse of the building.

There are no reports of any injuries and the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
