Firefighting operations have now concluded at a paper mill fire in Mill Street, Snodland.

At the height of the incident, there were four fire engines in attendance as well as the technical rescue unit and KFRS volunteer response team.

Crews used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and more than 450 tonnes of paper and cardboard, in stacks more than 12 ft high, were destroyed.  

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.

Crews have commended on site staff for their cooperation.

People living near Mill Street in Snodland are no longer advised to keep windows and doors closed. Please share this information with loved ones and neighbours in the affected area.

The incident is being scaled down to one fire engine, and the crew will maintain a watching brief overnight. 

Update at 9.30am on 6 August:

Crews are making good progress at a paper mill fire in Mill Street, Snodland.

Two fire engines are at the scene as firefighters continue to pull piles of paper apart to extinguish any remaining fires.

Due to this, the advice to keep windows and doors closed for people in the area is still in place as there is still smoke. It's expected be in place for the duration of the day.

The earlier advice for people living near Mill Street in Snodland to close windows and doors, remains in place due to smoke from a fire at a paper mill.

The incident has been reduced to two fire engines and a technical rescue unit, and crews are making good progress using machinery to pull large stacks of paper apart, and damping down.

People living or working in the area around Mill Street, Snodland are still being advised to keep windows and doors closed following a fire at a paper mill.

Four fire engines, as well as the technical rescue unit, are currently at the scene.

The KFRS volunteer response team is also in attendance.
