Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has been recognised with an award from Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) for its contribution to motorcycle safety.

Kent Advanced Motorcycle Group (KAMG) nominated KFRS for a RoadSmart (IAM) award, which was presented to the KFRS at the NEC Birmingham Motorcycle Live Show on Saturday (24 November).

The award, presented by Pat Doughty, operations director of IAM RoadSmart, was accepted by KFRS station manager and Fire Bike team leader Lawrence Pater, on behalf of the Kent Fire Bike team.

KAMG Chairman, Tina Underwood, said: “We have enjoyed a very positive working relationship with the Kent Fire and Rescue Service Road Safety Team and Fire Bike riders for about seven years now. They have been helping motorcyclists in Kent stay safe by raising awareness of life-saving issues through their initiatives, such as Ride Skills and Biker Down, and we felt that they deserved recognition for their outstanding contribution to road safety with these programmes”.

KFRS’ director  of operations, Sean Bone-Knell, said: “We are delighted to receive this award from the IAM. We look forward to working closely with KAMG in continuation of the great work we are doing as a partnership to deliver our joint aim of improving motorcycle road safety.

“My thanks go to all the team at KFRS and the volunteers who help us deliver Ride Skills. Their outstanding dedication makes it the success it is.”
