Being a Cleaning Operative at KFRS

KFRS has locations across the whole of Kent and Medway. The estate consists predominantly of Fire Stations, 56 to be exact. But we also operate and maintain several other non-operational buildings.

 

The Property Services team is responsible for managing the estate. We’re an in-house professional team, skilled in all aspects of Facilities Management. As part of the Cleaning Team, you will be responsible for undertaking cleaning tasks ensuring that your designated sites are cleaned to a hygienic condition, to agreed cleaning specifications.

 

You will be providing efficient and effective cleaning services ensuring health and safety regulations are met, and performing tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning of kitchens and washrooms.

What you’ll do

Carry out general and deep cleaning activities for a site or selection of site, including:

  • Empty and clean bins and remove waste to designated area
  • Clean internal glass and internal and external door glass
  • Vacuum and spot clean carpeted areas and wash or mop all other floors
  • Spot clean any spillages
  • Dust and clean furniture, fixtures and fittings
  • Clean and disinfect kitchen / kitchenette areas, replenishing consumables as required
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, hand basins and toilet areas and replenish toiletries and other consumables as required
  • Use electrical and mechanical equipment as necessary, e.g. floor polishers
  • Report any defects seen i.e. broken window, damaged furniture to the Cleaning Team Leader or Facilities Team Leader.
  • Use all cleaning materials in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions and COSHH regulations
  • Take own initiative to carry out cleaning and tidying tasks that are not specifically contained within the rota but require attention as part of maintaining overall high standards
  • Checking stock levels on site and updating the Cleaning Team Leader when items need reordering.

  • Working knowledge of relevant health and safety standards
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Organised with excellent time management skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of the English language
  • Full driving licence (for mobile operatives only)
  • Good level of physical fitness and ability to stand for shift durations
  • Proven working experience in a cleaning role.
