Cargo ship fire in Gravesend

Gravesham

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire onboard a cargo ship in Crete Hall Road, Gravesend.

At the height of the incident there were ten fire engines, a height vehicle, technical rescue unit, bulk water carrier and water safety unit in attendance. Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, followed a complex tactical plan to extinguish the flames.

Crews were also assisted by London Fire Brigade. The brigade deployed one of its fire boats from Lambeth River Station to the scene. 

The Volunteer Response Team attended by giving welfare support to crews and partners.  

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.
