Five fire engines, 35 firefighters and a height vehicle were sent to the scene; when the first crews arrived they found a well developed fire to the rear of the two storey property which had spread to the roof. A man in his 70s was rescued from the house and was given first aid treatment by crews before he was placed in the care of SECAmb paramedics. Due to the nature of the fire in the roof a height vehicle was needed to give crews a good vantage point to be able to deal with the blaze. Firefighters used breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and main jets to tackle the fire. Firefighters worked hard to contain the fire. Crews remain at the property. The cause and origin of the fire isn't known at this stage and an investigation will take place.
