Kent Fire and Rescue Service is looking for more on-call firefighters

Ten stations across Kent are looking for more people to help their community and become an on-call firefighter.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service is looking for on-call firefighters to join 10 of its stations.
Being an on-call firefighter is an important role at Kent Fire and Rescue Service and recruits will help to make a big difference in the community.
This is one of the reasons why Robbie decided to join his local station as an on-call firefighter.
He said: “I wanted to do something in the community, something I’d enjoy but also to be the person that people go to if they need help.
“Every time the alarm goes, you get that adrenaline rush and every job you go to is different.
“Every day surprises you, but what sticks out as an on-call firefighter is the community in and around the station. It’s incredible. You experience emotions together, you work together, you trust each other completely.”
Robbie’s full-time job is also at KFRS as a home fire safety officer, where he visits homes in the community to make sure they are safe. He says his on-call role works perfectly around it.
“It slots so easily around what you do. During the day, I try to prevent fires, and in the evening I go out to fight fires.
“It’s fantastic. You learn so many skills that you didn’t even realise you had and you wouldn’t get anywhere else.
“I’d highly recommend becoming an on-call firefighter, I love what I do.”
KFRS Group Manager James Kirk said: “The on-call firefighter role is flexible to fit around full-time work and around family and social life. There’s a set number of hours to cover each week which can be at any time throughout the day, night, or at weekends – but you work it to suit your lifestyle.
"As well as this being a rewarding opportunity to give back to your community, as part of KFRS, you’ll enjoy benefits including generous annual leave, flexible working, Blue Light Card discounts, enhanced family policies, and pension schemes – all designed to support your health and promote a positive work-life balance.
"We’re looking for people who want to make a real difference in their neighbourhood.”
